Happy Birthday Dalai Lama

A light heart leads to a long life

OK, here’s a special offer. I read an article the other day about email and humour, and how a lot of times humour can be misinterpreted or completely missed in virtual formats.

I have a quirky sense of humour, and I tend to take most things in a light-hearted manner, which might be missed a lot of the time.

I’m interested to see if there are many (any?) people out there who share my brand of humour.

So here’s the special offer. If you can tell me how and why the title of the Atma Yoga video is a little bit of self-deprecating humour, you’ll win yourself a complimentary copy of one of the books on my recommended reading list on the right hand side of my blog. You choose which one. Winner takes all - first in, best dressed. Leave a comment to participate.

Heh heh heh

Srila Prabhupada

Here is a Prabhupada pastime that came to mind yesterday:

During a press conference attended by several reporters Srila Prabhupada was being questioned by a young female reporter who had asked a string of questions in a very challenging manner. After a number of questions she asked: “Why do you shave your heads?” Srila Prabhupada, having patiently answered her queries up to this point now responded, without batting an eyelid: “Why do you show your legs?” in reference to her short skirt.

The reporter was caught completely off guard and was speechless. The question hung in the air for a moment, and then His Divine Grace continued: “We think it is better to have warm legs and a cool head,” with a big smile. Everyone in the room, including the young lady reporter laughed at Srila Prabhupada’s incredibly quick and disarming humour, completely free from malice.

I meditate on the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada with the sincere desire that my words might also become free from malice and beneficial and pleasing to all who hear them.

The world is hopeless.

hahahahaha! I love Anonymous Lawyer. On the money every time.

Theo Epstein makes me sick. He was the general manager of the Red Sox until two days ago, when he decided to walk away from a $4.5 million three-year contract because his heart wasn’t 100% in it anymore. What a baby. And what a shortsighted, stupid thing to do. He’s never had a real job in his life. He’s worked for baseball teams. He has a job most people would kill for. And he walks away from it because he can’t see eye-to-eye with his boss. What does he expect? This is what a job is. You do your work, you cash your checks, you find fulfillment elsewhere if you have to. This is why we can’t keep our associates. People want more from their jobs than they have a right to expect. It’s work. We have an economy here. We’re in business to make money. If you have a problem with that, move to a kibbutz in Israel and grow your own food. Babies like this one think they’re standing up for principles when he’s just proving he shouldn’t have been given the job to begin with. I hope he lands here in L.A., where the dysfunctional Dodgers front office can beat his spirit into submission. At least his actions, if anyone here besides me even has time to pay attention to the news, might help the associates better resign themselves to their fate. After all, if the general manager of the Red Sox can’t be happy, what hope do they ever have of finding joy at work? The deeper that message sinks in, the less eager they’ll be to leave and look for greener pastures. The world is hopeless. You won’t find anything better than what we have to offer. So sit down, give yourself a good cry, and then get back to work. That’s what we’re here for. An honest day’s work. Sixteen hours. That’s all we’re asking. And your Blackberry, on vibrate, under your pillow, just in case.

Hare Krishnas drop Microsoft, to adopt Linux worldwide by 2008

Heads up! It’s official!

——————————————
The Governing Body of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known as the Hare Krishnas, have decided to phase out all Microsoft products across the Hare Krishna organization, and adopt Linux as a world-wide standard. It’s not clear yet whether they are going to produce their own “Krishna-distro”, or whether they will use an existing distro, but apparently they are in negotiations with the Fedora community project and also rumoured to be talking directly with Red Hat about the possibility of a special “religious discount” for a fully supported solution beginning in Q3 2006.
