That’s a nice collection of quotations. Unfortunately, the last one, from HH the Dalai Lama, was spoken by a Buddhist leader who himself is not vegetarian. Too bad; he could effect so much more good in the world with a strong example of how far ahimsa could extend.

Well, it’s just too bad he doesn’t have better doctors, and better discrimination. His 1967 remarks reflect, I think, Buddhist ideals, if not practice.
I had a Buddhist friend once, who, when asked if the Buddha was vegetarian, replied, “Well, if he wasn’t, he should have been!”
