I recently got a job at Red Hat Asia Pacific. Four of us were hired to make a new technical support team. We did a one week training course and then sat the RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician) exam. It was a three hour exam. Red Hat certifications are recognised as the most demanding in the industry. In the first section, troubleshooting, you need 100% in an hour. In the second section, installation and configuration, you need 70% in two hours. I was the first one finished in the first section in under ten minutes. I was the last one, staying right to the end, in the second section. My result? 90.9%. I came third. Two of the other guys on my team got a cool 100%.

Hi there
firstly i want to say your site is wonderful
i now have a favour to ask
I was wondering if you can give me any pointers for the RHCT i
too are about to enroll in it.. what areas do you reccomend.
any help would be excellent
thanks
Amy
Amy, as you might already know, the RHCT and RHCE qualifications are highly respected within the professional community, and it’s because they’re not easy to get.
In order to take the exam I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement that forbids me from talking about the details of the exam.
I can tell you the process that I used to prepare myself for the exam, however. What I did is spend a lot of time before I took the course playing around with a system and setting it up in different ways. Then while I was taking the course I practiced all the labs each night on my system at home, until I was completely familiar with them.
Basically if you can master the material and the labs taught during the course, you can ace the exam. Two people in my course got 100%. I was able to keep up only because of the time I had spent over the six months beforehand familiarizing myself with Fedora and RHEL and utilizing it in different situations.
Otherwise, if you miss the qualifying mark you can resit the exam. I know two people who resat their RHCT/RHCE exam and got it on the second go, so that’s not unusual.
Good luck!
Thanks for your reply, I didnt mean for you to tell me what was in the exam itself just which areas i should need to concentrate on or what areas would give me a heads up prior to partaking the course
i really enjoy your site by the way.
